Analysis and Investigation

In a group of three we surveyed the site, the Northeast Gallery.

We were able to analyse and appreciate the proportions and scale of each element in the elevation. We could then see how they have been broken down and repeated from one element to another, this allowed us to get some understanding relationship between proportion and hierarchy. Below are my drawings of the East Elevation.

 Proportion and hierarchy

Most importantly, for Palladio, order meant hierarchy. The N/E gallery is an octagonal transitional room, where 6/8 elevations lead onto a different space.

The Palladian rules of proportion and hierarchy is clearly demonstrated in this space, where each elevation is purposefully different to emphasise the importance of the room beyond. I have created a model to expose these proportions, where the sections can be compared and the hierarchy can be relieved.

My work was one of those chosen to be exhibited in an exhibition at Chiswick house which I was very happy about.

Project Overview

For this short project we were assigned a room within Chiswick House.  We were required to measure, interpret and represent as a set of orthogonal/measured drawings and a model.
