Idea for our intervention
Interactive seating for the Plaza

The plaza acted as a transition space for people to walk through but no one would actually spend any time in this area, it was very uninviting; windy, dark, with no seating.

We wanted to create an intervention that would make people want to linger in the area.

The influence of our design came from the ‘inside/ outside” nature of the Plaza and the amazing reflective qualities of the revolving door as you enter or exit the building.

Our final design was a clusters of seating spread throughout the plaza. These would visually resemble the revolving door. The seating would be connected through a series of cogs beneath the ground which would be seen through glass flooring. When one person moved one seat, it would move all the cogs and the seating above.

In the day the seating would mimic the reflective qualities of the revolving door. At night lights would be turned on beneath the cogs creating moving light above.
